An Exclusive Look At The Cannes Promo For Rico Ilarde’s KILLDROID!

I’ve been running in to Pete Tombs and Andy Starke of Mondo Macabro on a regular basis here in the Cannes Market and yesterday the duo were good enough to slip me a little something special to share with you, the Twitch faithful:  the brand new promotional spot for Rico Maria Ilarde’s upcoming Filipino b-flick Killdroid. The story of a high school girl who becomes the lover of an abandoned killer android - part of an abandoned military project - this one looks to pack as much camp value into every frame as humanly possible.

Before moving on to the promo itself it’s worth noting that this was shot in a single day to sell the concept of the film to potential investors.  The concepts are all in place and looking like good, trashy fun but these are not necessarily the final actors or representative of the final effects.  Got that?  Okay, you’ll find the promo below the break.

Minus Ten Decibels at Mogwai

ARE you ready for a “soporific, alphatropic, REM-tropic, quadrophonic post-music event”? Then head on over (it’s free admission) to the second floor of Mogwai Cafe at Cubao X (you know, the old Marikina Shoe Expo), Gen Romulo Avenue, Araneta Center, Cubao.

Dubbed as Minus Ten Decibels, this event is from New Media Arts Manila in cooperation with Mogwai Film Club.

Here’s more info from the press statement:

Featuring the soft murmurings of Manila’s most innovative composers. Snuggle up with your friends on the dimly-lit, pillow-strewn deck of Mogwai’s screening room while low-level noise/ambient/post-music seeps into your auditory canals from our quasi-surround quadrophonic sound system and corrodes your superior cervical ganglion. Video projections by Lyle Sacris, Jason Tan, and Blums Borres to provide illumination for those who seek both light and enlightenment.

Blums Borres - Caliph8 - Tad Ermitano - Jing Garcia (autoceremony) Malek Lopez - Pow Martinez (Nun Radar)- Lyle Sacris - Jason Tan - Tengal

Mogwai Film Club located on the 2nd floor of Mogwai Cafe is dedicated to showing all sorts of films from Hollywood classics to underground cinema, art-house fare to Pinoy grindhouse flicks. They are open for membership and will be accepting donations during the show.

Minus Ten Decibels is bought to you by Globe, Intel, and Sony Ericsson.

ABSOLUTE HORROR NEW PAINTINGS AND SCULPTURE LOUIE CORDERO

“Terror is a man” and horror is our fascination for it. Whatever
comes out of its fanged gnawing mouth leaves no absolute space for
thinking, its awesome indescribability drawn from the probability of
the unseen or even the unimaginable come alive. This re-engagement
with the morbid fantasy of prepubescent awakening by Fangoria and
Clive Barker mixed in with the horror vacui- jeepney graphics
profusely converge in Louie Cordero’s latest exhibit Absolute Horror
opening at Mo_space on June 28 until July27 2008.

Sputnik

There’s a new shop in town—that is, if your town happens to be Cubao—and it looks like no other shop you’ve ever seen before, except perhaps in some strange dream that you had after staying up all night rereading Grant Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol. Outside, it looks like it’s melting; inside, it looks like geek heaven, with its bright white interiors and its shelves stocked with wonderful comics and toys. It’s called Sputnik, and it just opened at the Cubao Expo. In the words of one of the owners, Ramon de Veyra, “We sell comics, graphic novels, action figures, designer toys, and other cool stuff: some posters, some shirts, some novels, some statues.” (The other owner is Lyle Sacris, acclaimed and anti-ordinary filmmaker.) We talked to Ramon about his new enterprise.
